SHIP Mates Project:
Partners OSHIIP Trained Volunteers with Hospitals

The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) created the SHIP Mates volunteer program to reach people in a time of need, in most cases during a hospital stay. Area hospitals partner with OSHIIP trained volunteers to provide hospitalized Medicare patients with a SHIP Mates resource kit and a personalized introduction to the OSHIIP program. In two years, SHIP Mates has assisted over 1,000 Medicare beneficiaries.

OSHIIP created SHIP Mates with replication in mind. The following resources are available to explore whether a program like SHIP Mates could work for your SHIP.

If you have additional questions about SHIP Mates or want to request a SHIP Mates resource kit, please contact Becky Hayward, Outreach Specialist for OSHIIP, at Rebecca.Hayward@ins.state.oh.us.
