Let's Talk Disenrollment:
Resolving Enrollment Issues

HAP Conference Call
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
3:00 PM ET

Despite the best efforts of SHIPs, sometimes beneficiaries end up enrolled into MA or PDP plans that are not appropriate for their needs. In these cases SHIPs are often called upon to assist beneficiaries with resolving the enrollment problems. Many times enrollment changes are straightforward-- beneficiaries who are entitled to a Special Enrollment Period and have no outstanding bills. At other times helping a beneficiary choose and enroll in an appropriate plan, sort through non-network provider unpaid bills, and request a retroactive disenrollment is a complicated series of processes.

This call will provide an opportunity for SHIPs to share stories and discuss solutions to the following issues:

  • What does the disenrollment process look like on paper and in the field?
  • What methods of disenrollment are being used? What works? What does not work?
  • When is a request for retroactive disenrollment appropriate?
  • What is the SHIP role for retroactive disenrollments?

The objective of this conference call is to gain an understanding of the SHIP perspective on disenrollments and to gather solutions for managing the case load.
