Maryland SHIP Program |
The CSP provided the Maryland SHIP Program the opportunity to build the management skills of coordinators to educate, counsel, and assist Medicare beneficiaries by increasing their volunteer pool.
The two overall goals of the CSP are:
- To support local SHIP programs to recruit and retain more volunteers.
- To strengthen the management capacity of local SHIP coordinators to build and sustain strong volunteer programs.
To achieve these goals, HAP engaged intensively with the Maryland SHIP program to develop and implement the following strategies:
- A "role-based" volunteer program named "SHIPMATES"
- A customized volunteer recruitment toolkit reflecting SHIPMATES roles
- A customized volunteer recruitment strategy and plan
- Volunteer management training series for coordinators
- Volunteer management resources for coordinators
- A volunteer training framework for SHIPMATES roles
