Michigan SHIP Program

The CSP with the Michigan Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program, Inc. (MMAP) seeks to develop volunteer recruitment tools and management resources for local SHIP coordinators to increase their volunteer pool.

The two overall goals of the CSP are:

• To support local SHIP programs to recruit and retain more volunteers
• To strengthen the management capacity of local SHIP coordinators to build and sustain strong volunteer programs

To achieve these goals, HAP is working intensively with MMAP, Inc. to develop and implement the following strategies:

• Developing a “role-based” volunteer program
• Developing a customized volunteer recruitment toolkit reflecting these roles
• Implementing a customized volunteer recruitment plan
• Developing Michigan-specific recruitment resources
• Building MMAP coordinators’ skills and expertise to manage and coordinate the activities of volunteers
