The annual SHIP Directors Conference is fast approaching. This year it is set for May 26-29. Since we are located in Washington, D.C., we often don't have the chance to discuss Medicare-related topics with you face-to-face. Every year we look forward to the SHIP Directors Conference. It gives us an opportunity to see members of the SHIP network and to match faces with the names of our community members with whom we partner throughout the year.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the conference. We are especially excited that HAP has been selected to lead three sessions during the conference. When submitting our proposed topics to CMS, we carefully chose subjects that we felt would be the most relevant to your daily work with clients and your staff. Here are the three workshops HAP will present:
- SHIP Certification: Strategies for Ensuring Competence and Confidence
Explore what it means to be "certified" and why it matters. Learn what SHIPs are doing to ensure competence and instill confidence in volunteers.
- Setting the Bar Higher: Research Skills to Help Improve Counseling Services for SHIP Clients
Learn how to use CMS's policy manuals and coverage determinations to answer clients' difficult questions about eligibility, enrollment and coverage.
- Successful Volunteer Training Programs: Going for the Gold with a Role-Based Model
Explore role-based volunteer training models developed by SHIPs. Learn how to design a role-based training program to help your SHIP "go for the gold."
Our staff will be present and available to assist you with whatever questions you might have. If you would like to set up a time to chat with a member of the HAP Team, email us at SHIPhelp@hapnetwork.org or just introduce yourself to any of us at the conference. For those of you who are attending, we look forward to seeing you at the conference and the HAP-sponsored reception Wednesday evening.
Sincerely,
The HAP Team
