5. When will someone who was found entitled to a Medicare Savings Program (QMB, SLMB, or QI) be deemed eligible for LIS?
The answer to this question is dependent upon how long it takes the state to transmit data to CMS regarding new MSPs and thereafter how long it takes CMS to process those MSP enrollments and deem them eligible for LIS.  According to CMS, this may take up to two months.  SHIPs have reported that the MSP process often takes considerably longer.  For more information, see the LIS Guidance, Sections 10.2, 20, and 20.1.
