2. Is it best to pay the plan premium out-of-pocket or by deduction from the Social Security check?
There is no correct or better way of paying the plan's Part D premium.  Beneficiaries have several options to choose from:

  • They may choose to pay the premium by sending a check each month to the plan. (Some plans provide their enrollees with a "coupon book" to help them pay the premium on time.)
  • They may choose to have the premiums automatically deducted from bank account.
  • They may choose to have the premium automatically deducted from their monthly Social Security check (similar to the Medicare Part B premium.)
