Medicare is a federally-funded health insurance program for people age 65 or older, people under age 65 with certain disabilities, and people of all ages with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant). Original Medicare refers to two parts of a fee-for-service program — Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance).
Medicare is also comprised of two additional parts, which are administered through private plans.
