President Signs Bills Increasing SHIP Funding by 75% for 2008
After years of partnering with SHIPs to educate members of Congress about the critical role SHIPs play in serving Medicare beneficiaries our efforts have been successful. On December 19, Congress passed two separate bills, which increased SHIP funding for Fiscal Year 2008 by 75%. President Bush signed the bills into law by the end of the year, which will increase SHIP funding from $31 million in 2007 to $54.3 million in 2008.

It is vital that Congress continues to hear directly from SHIPs.
The more information members of Congress have about the importance of SHIP services, the better able they are to advocate for SHIP funding.
Congress has recently acted to increase SHIP funding, so now is the time to build upon the momentum and to share with members of Congress how these additional funds will help serve more Medicare beneficiaries.
