HAP's 2008 SHIP Needs Survey

In October 2008, HAP surveyed SHIP Directors to find out more about their needs and priorities for the coming year. Thirty SHIP Directors (56%) responded to the survey and offered insight about a variety of topics, including SHIP certification.

The survey found that:

• 76% of SHIPs have a certification program for volunteers or staff
• Most SHIPs combine different elements to create comprehensive certification programs (e.g. training, exercises, etc.)
• SHIP vary in how they define a certified counselor
